World Arts, Inc. is a full service commercial printing company providing high end reproduction quality. As an employee owned (ESOP) company, World Arts produces a wide range of products from business cards to annual reports through the use of both conventional offset lithography and digital printing solutions.
Our roots dig deep into the rural community of Spencer, Indiana. Original owner John T. Gillaspy was a visionary who foresaw an opportunity to diversify his local newspaper business into a full service commercial printing company. Rather than purchase a single press, he purchased an existing business, with a stable customer base and dedicated employees. That was 25 years ago when the company was housed in a humble block building. Not one to stay static, John strove for increased capacity and services, focused on hiring knowledgeable employees and technological solutions.
Like any company, decisions made along the way, large and small, have proven to be milestones in our growth and success.
During the 1990’s, computer aided prepress techniques replaced traditional analogue processes. The decision to move the prepress functions into a digital workflow proved instrumental to growth in our medical and commercial printing divisions. The 8-page imagesetter generated film output in full press sheet configuration. This along with the purchase of a drum scanner closed the loop in fully integrated film generation by allowing for digital image capture and placement. Customer files were processed through the interactive computerized prepress system that enabled the actualization of desktop designs direct to film, and eventually direct to plate.
Two building expansions brought all commercial operations under one roof. Incorporating personnel from the “back shop” of the newspaper operation provided additional experienced and talented press operators to the commercial printing enterprise, as well as aided in management of the facility.
The purchase of two Heidelberg and Mitsubishi 6-color presses enabled the company to offer high quality commercial printing to designers and marketing departments and firms.
The company’s continued growth foretold the purchase of yet another 6-color Mitsubishi press. The press purchase was followed closely by an expansion in the bindery that included a Perfecta Cutting System and a 6-pocket Heidelberg stitcher/assembly unit. Simultaneously the Customer Service department was expanded and a custom MIS system developed to facilitate better communication with customers, and improve daily workflow management.
A robust Quality Management System compliant to ISO 9001:2000 standards assured traceability and accountability to an ever-increasing workload in our medical printing division.
The development of a sales force opened company services into broader geographic areas. It was during this time that World Arts was formed into an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company at the retirement of the company’s family-owners.
In January 2018, World Arts celebrated its 25th year anniversary.
Today, that humble block building now spans a city block, with further expansion currently underway.
As employee owners we continue to focus on growth, by offering additional services, quick turnarounds, competitive prices and superior quality.
